The
Multi-Tribal Enterprise Fund
In 2007, the ITEA has formed its first private equity
fund – the Multi-Tribal Enterprise Fund I (MTEF I) – to manage
and invest large amounts of tribal capital in a diverse portfolio
of interests including tribal businesses, real estate, tribal start-ups,
reservation energy development, as well as traditional and alternative
investments such as securities, bonds, capital and debt, buyout,
venture capital, and fund-of-funds. The wide range of investment
options are a hallmark of private equity and hedge funds and offer
participants in the fund greater financial options than are possible
through traditional investment institutions such as mutual funds,
commercial banks, and brokerages.
More importantly, MTEF I is distinguished by a commitment
to invest and work with Indian Country. Accordingly, MTEF I
has selected the Multi-Tribal Enterprise Management Company
(MTE Mgmt. Co.) to serve as its Fund Manager. The MTE Mgmt.
Co. is controlled by Native American tribes and employees Native
American professionals as key officers.
It goes without saying that our Fund Manager is committed
to making investments in Indian Country and has directed its
sub-advisors that they must invest a significant portion of
MTEF I’s capital within Indian Country.
MTEF I is based in White Plains, New York and works with
principal Sub-Advisor Cotto & Padovani of Wachovia Securities,
the accounting firms of Deloitte & Touche, Ernst & Young,
and Puglisi, Heben, Gioffre & Moore, trust agent CSC Trust,
administrative services through the BISYS Platform, and the
legal services of Arnold & Porter LLP.
As a private equity fund, MTEF I is not in any way intended
to be a straightforward investment fund, and investors are
specifically limited by federal law to only certain types of
people and institutions who meet certain threshold capital
requirements. As a private equity fund, MTEF I, MTE Mgmt. Co.,
and the ITEA are prohibited from publicly offering membership
in the MTEF I and may do so only through private placement. |
